PASTA IN WHITE SAUCE



Pasta in white sauce is quite an appetizing sight. What if the sauce is made from whole wheat flour?

Any kind of pasta can be used in this recipe. To make the dish more healthy regular pasta can be substituted with whole wheat pasta. Also the recipe calls for very less cheese without any compromise on its silkiness. More vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, peas can be added.

Recipe for Pasta in white sauce


Ingredients for Pasta in white sauce



  • 1 cup macroni
  • ½ cup carrot (finely diced)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp cheese spread or 1/3 cup grated cheese
  • salt and pepper
  • spring onions for garnish

How to cook pasta


Boil five cups of water with some salt.



Drop pasta in boiling water and stir immediately as the raw pasta tends to sit at the bottom and may stick.

Boil the pasta for seven to eight minutes or as directed on the carton.

The pasta should be almost cooked.

Drain water and keep aside.

If the pasta has cooked more put it under running water to stop cooking.

Toss the pasta in one tablespoon of oil to avoid sticking.

Cook the diced carrots with some water in microwave for two to three minutes or boil it till almost done.



Heat the butter and oil in a saucepan.

Add whole wheat flour. Cook for a minute.



Reduce heat. Now add milk stirring continuously to avoid lump formation.

Keep stirring until the sauce begins to thicken.



Add the pre cooked carrots.



Add the cheese spread. Mix well.



Simmer for another two minutes.





Tip in the cooked pasta. Mix well.



Garnish with chopped spring onion before serving.
